What does the grant include?
It includes the full cost of designing your website, including the text, editing, picture placement, layout and look.
It covers the cost of buying your domain name (unique internet address) and ensuring the search engines are aware of your site.
It covers the cost of submitting your domain name to the search engines regularly to ensure you are always able to be found on the internet.
It covers optimization, which means building in key words both visible and ‘behind’ the site that will alert the search engines to your services, products or type of business ie: plumber, solicitor, hotel, bed and breakfast etc.
The grant also covers a listing on the national Tourist Information Centres site for two years, which will help to direct traffic from this very busy site to your site to help you get business and be more easily found on the internet.
^ Back to topWhat do I need to give you?
An idea of how you would like your site to look – a choice of templates makes this very easy. We also need some information about your business – a brochure, a few key points or even a phone call telling us what you do well will be sufficient. These two items join to become the shape and look of your website and the word content. We then require photographs. That is it really, just a small amount of your time.
^ Back to topWhat is hosting and what does it cost?
Hosting costs are included in the monthly maintenance of £38.83 per month and that figure is guaranteed not to change for the duration of your grant package. Hosting is a bit like a listing in the Yellow Pages, it means your publicity is ‘parked’ somewhere that people can see it. On the internet, a reliable, professional and dependable host is all important as you rely on the host to keep you visible. Using another analogy…. if you created an advert to publicise your business, you would want to place it somewhere – well your website is like the advert and the host is like the publication.
^ Back to topWhat will it look like and what happens if I don't like it or want to make changes?
It will look like you want it to and we will not put your website ‘live’ on the internet until you are happy. If you don’t like something, we will change it until you do. If you think something is OK and later change your mind, we will change it. We never forget that YOU are in control of how it represents you and your business.
^ Back to topHow long will it take?
This varies depending on the availability of the information and photos we need from you. Inevitably the photos are what slow down the production, so the sooner you can get these to us, the sooner we can get you ‘live’. Once we have the information, template choice and photos, we can produce the site in less than 8 weeks.
^ Back to topAre there any guarantees it will improve my business?
Not guarantees, but knowledge and logic. The internet is becoming a part of nearly everybody’s lives. More and more people now book their holidays online, shop with eBay, get their groceries delivered, order flowers, send virtual cards, browse for pleasure etc. This trend has accelerated beyond expectation and the convenience of the internet ensures this is a trend that won’t go away. So, if you provide a service or sell goods, you need to be on the internet and being on the internet means you can compete with your contemporaries for business.
^ Back to topWhy should I do a listing on your national site?
Because our national site is such a major player on the internet, it lends credibility to your website. Our vast numbers of visitors will click the link to your site and you have increased visitors. Just having your website on the internet is a brilliant start, but you can get even more from it if you ‘drive’ it. By this, we mean promote your website address. Being on the national site is like a big promotion for your web address and we know it adds credibility and visibility to your site.
^ Back to topWhat is the cost to set this up?
There is a set-up cost of £89 for creating your listing – but the grant will cover the first two years running your listing. After the two years of free listings, you can choose whether or not to retain the listing or not – the choice is yours.
^ Back to topWhat will it cost every month and what’s that for exactly?
For 55 months we will take a standing order payment of £38.83 + VAT, which together with your deposit of £174.17 + vat (= to 5 months @ £38.83) this will pay for the hosting of your website, unlimited minor changes to the content and look of your website and up to six major changes of content ie: new photographs, text rewrite, promotional items etc. The hosting fee also covers submissions to search engines and regular reports.
^ Back to topWhy do you want me to sign up for 5 years, and can I cancel before then?
We offer a five year contract so that you can be certain of no surprises during this time and that the monthly fee stays the same for the duration of the contract. You can always cancel (after an initial 18 month period) with six month’s notice.
^ Back to topWhy & Where does the grant come from
The grant is funded by commercial business; our aim is to provide long term client service, with the objective being to provide professional websites, for businesses that would otherwise be unable to compete in the growing internet world.
